Lamp Lighting Ceremony

College of Nursing, Ziauddin University observed International Nurses & Midwifery Day on Friday, 3rd May 2019 at Abul Hasan Jafarey Auditorium, Ziauddin University to highlight the importance of Nursing and Midwifery profession. The Lamp Lighting Ceremony was themed, “A voice to lead, health for all.” The Chief Guest, Dr. Sarah Salman, Provincial Head of Office Sindh at World Health Organization (WHO) said that commitment, hard work, dedication, association with care services are the key words for the profession of Nurses and Midwifery. Nurses are trained to look after not only an individual’s sickness but physical and mental health as well. They are the support system and backbone of any healthcare organization and hence the society. This day gives us motivation to train more nurses with latest technologies to compete globally.

While discussing about sustainable development goals, Dr. Sarah Salman, said that it is the era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Pakistan is also the signatory of agenda 2030. Sustainable Development Goal number 3 is for Health sector, which indicate universal health coverage for all.

Dr. Stephen O’ Brien, Dean Faculty of Health and Society at University of Northampton, as Keynotes Speaker, appreciated and motivated all the efforts of nurses and said that it was so good to observe that a developing country like Pakistan is taking initiatives in support of nursing profession. Nursing is all about making sure that there are dedicated human resources to take care of patients.

He further added that Nursing is all about empowering a soul. In this context, nurses & midwives are prominent voices and an important part of our society. In this transitional period, we definitely need to work together for the betterment of this profession. He was sure that nursing profession and nurses of Pakistan will make country proud around the globe.

Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University said that nurses are indication of change and they are trained for this particular area. Our health facilities rely heavily on nurses. They can easily bring revolution in the field of medical. They deserve our support, respect and appreciation. It is the most trusted profession because of philosophy behind it. Competition is very tough in the world and we need to upgrade our structure. At Ziauddin, we give proper training to our nurses with the use of latest technologies.

Other speakers Khairunnisa Akbar, Controller SNEB and Shabbir Jhatial, Director of Nursing at the event highlighted the importance of nurses and midwifery and stated that professions like nursing involve humility and it is the day to celebrate it. Nurses Day is observed to inform the public about work of nurses and how they contribute to health and well-being of public. The International Nurses & Midwifery Day is all about highlighting the contributions that nurses made in the delivery of health care system.

 Students of College of Nursing, Ziauddin University took oath and lit their lamps during lamp lighting ceremony to commit to this noble profession and pay tribute to Florence Nightingale, the one who dedicated her life to the nursing profession in the most selfless way.

HNow COMMON SENSE hosted at Ziauddin University College of Nursing

A student’s life is full of workload and stress. During exam season, students are anxious and stress level reaches its peak. Therefore, every student deserves a break to freshen up the tired mind, elevate mood and boost up the energy levels.

For this purpose, H Now team brought the exciting and smart back to school time with an interactive road show “COMMON SENSE” that challenges youngsters with tasks that require dexterity, physical and mental skills. The results were comical with a generous serving of fun and learning, which was hosted by radio and television personality, Azhar Ali on 7th of March, 2019.

On Monday, February 4, 2019 on “Oral Hygiene and Tooth Brushing” at Day Care Center. Children learned the importance of oral hygiene and proper technique of tooth brushing with the help of puppet show and poems. Health education session was highly appreciated by the Day Care staff and hospital management.

Health Education session on “Side effects of Chemotherapy” was held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 in Oncology ward. Patient, attendants and healthcare professionals attended the session. The objectives were to discuss the side effects of chemotherapy and its management. The session was conducted through presentation, models and interactive discussions. All the participants appreciated the efforts of the students. The teaching resource material was provided to oncology department for continuing education and patient teaching.

Health Awareness and Education session on “Substance Abuse” was held on Wednesday, February 7, 2019 at Ziauddin College of Nursing. Nursing staff, Housekeeping and Hospital Administration staff attended the session. The purpose of the session was to create awareness regarding substance abuse. The objectives were to define substance abuse, discuss its impact on health and complications. Moreover, different approaches and techniques were elucidated for the treatment of substance abuse. The session was conducted through presentation, charts, live model and interactive discussions. At the end of the session few participants committed to disengage with the habit of substance abuse (chewing betel).

Health Education session on “Stress, Coping and Relaxation Techniques” was held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in Oncology ward. Patients and healthcare professionals attended the session. The objectives were to discuss the effects of stress on health and relaxation techniques. The session was conducted through presentation, models and interactive discussions. All the participants appreciated the guided imagery technique. At the end of the session participants were feeling relaxed.

Health Education session on “Self Breast Examination” was held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in Ziauddin College of Nursing. Students of year 2 Diploma program have attended the session. The objectives were to discuss the importance and techniques of Self Breast Examination. The session was conducted through presentation, models, demonstration and interactive discussions.

Health Education session on “Backache” was held on Friday, February 15, 2019 in Conference Room (ground floor) Ziauddin Hospital North Campus. Nursing staff, Housekeeping staff, Security staff and Hospital Administration staff attended the session. The objectives were to discuss the causes and preventive measures of backache. The session was conducted through presentation, models, demonstration and interactive discussions.

CULTURE PROGRAM AT ZIAUDDIN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF NURSING

Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. It includes the basic beliefs and faith, values and literature, art and architecture, music and dress, manners and customs prevalent in a given society.

Pakistani culture is highlighted by its simplicity, firm convictions, noble deeds and ideas. In Pakistan, there are four types of cultures at provincial levels; Sindhi Culture, Punjabi Culture, Balochi Culture and KhyberPakhtunKhwa Culture.

On 11th of March 2019, the students of Post RN year I and year II organized the cultural program and showcased the customs, history, dress, music, arts and cuisines of the four cultures of Pakistan which were evaluated by the Principal of Ziauddin University College of Nursing, Ms. Alia Nasir and other faculty members of College of Nursing.

CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON 12, FEBRUARY 2019

COMMENCEMENT DAY AT ZIAUDDIN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF NURSING

Commencement Day program was held on January 31st 2019 at Ziauddin University College of Nursing, which was organized by our graduating batch BScN – IV and RN III under the supervision of Ms Ashraf Valliani and Ms Sabina Aslam. In this program, the Guest of Honor was Dr Sikander Memon, Deputy Secretary Health Department, and the Chief guest was Dr Jamal uddin Jalani (both couldn’t attend the event). The following guests attended the event: Mr. Shabbir Jhatial, Director General Nursing Sindh; Dr Shireen Mansoor, Medical Superintendent of Dr Ziauddn Hospital, Dr Rubina, Ms Yasmeen, Ms Fehmida, Ms Shehnaz and Ms Fauzia Pasnani.

In this event, souvenirs were presented to our guests and certificates were also given to the nursing students who gave best performance in academics and clinical. At the end of the event, lunch was arranged for the guests and refreshments were distributed among the students of BScN – I and RN – I

FAREWELL AND MUSICAL NIGHT’19 AT ZIAUDDIN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF NURSING

The night full of enthusiasm, energy, memories and music was celebrated at Ziauddin University College of Nursing, which was organized by our graduating batch BSN – IV and RN – III under the supervision of Ms Ashraf Valliani and Ms Sabina Aslam. The guests who attended the event were Ms Yasmeen Siraj and Ms Shehnaz.

In this event, a farewell was given to the passed out batch of BSN and RN and many outstanding performances were given by the students. Guest singers, musicians and band were also invited to perform at this event. A token of thanks was presented to the guests and a token of appreciation was given to the staffs of Ziauddin University College of Nursing. At the end of this event, dinner was arranged for the guests, faculties, staffs and students.

Degree Show 2018

Degree Show 2018, was held at Ziauddin College on Media Sciences on 27th & 28th December, 2018. On the 27th December, external jury was held to examine and grade the work on display by the thesis students. There were esteemed names on the external jury Sumaira Jajja , Rasgid Sami and Nazneen Tayeb. The external jury was glad to see the commitment and dedication of the students into their thesis and commended for the efforts put in.

Christmas Celebration 2018

Christmas is a religious and cultural festival celebrated annually by the Christian community to commemorate the birthday of Jesus Christ. It falls on 25th of December every year and celebrated with zeal and zest across the world. It is the festival which gives the message of peace, love and forgiveness.

Celebration of Christmas took place at Ziauddin University College of Nursing on 21st of December, 2018 which was organized by Students Council of ZUCON. Students of BSN and RN participated in this celebration program with great zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Aijaz Fatima, pioneer of Dr. Ziauddin Hospital along wit Dr. Zareen Asim Hussain also attended this program and Birthday of Dr. Aijaz Fatima was also celebrated as a token of affection and respect towards a great and strong personality like her.

Transformative power of play

What Works for Adolescents ? Transformative power of play , was a seminar organised by Dr Rozina Karmaliani ( Professor, AKU-SONAM). The seminar bought most senior Management of Aga Khan University, key educators, professionals and above all three Ministries including Health, Education, and Tourism and Culture on the table to disseminate and discuss very important issues of Adolescent health from  Randomized Control Trial study . The day proved to be a true example of collaboration, commitment and partnership.
